"Three grand essentials to happiness in this life," wrote Joseph Addison, "are something to do, someone to love, and something to hope for." We want to help with the something to do.
What job you go after will affect most of your life for the rest of your life. We want to help by providing first-hand information about many jobs. This information is often hard to find. Suppose you are thinking of being a dentist. What's it like to be a dentist? you wonder. The traditional way of answering such questions is do an internship. But internships take a lot of time -- months. We want to give you helpful info within minutes. An internship teaches you about one workplace. We want to help you learn about many workplaces.
The Internet makes this possible. The world contains hundreds of thousands of different jobs -- or millions if you consider how much one job varies from place to place. For the first time, it is possible to provide detailed first-hand information about many of them.
Librarians have a saying: Every reader his/her book; every book its reader. Almost everyone (a) has a job or (b) will have one. We want to bring these two groups together. Whatever your job, someone wants to learn about it. Whatever job you wonder about, someone would be happy to tell you about it.
